About WFIC

The Wisconsin Foundation for Independent Colleges (WFIC) was established in 1954 to provide financial support to Wisconsin’s independent colleges. WFIC is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is governed by a board of directors comprised of five college presidents and four business executives. Since its inception, WFIC has raised over $55 million for Wisconsin students and colleges.

WFIC's mission is to build a pipeline of talent for Wisconsin.

WFIC partners with each of Wisconsin’s 20 independent colleges, Wisconsin companies, nonprofits, youth serving organizations, and school partners. The WFIC model is designed to produce Wisconsin’s future leaders, committed citizens, and dedicated professionals. The model is built on the following three service pillars:

Pre-College Services: College Readiness 21 (CR21) provides approximately 500 under-served, low-income youth with the skills needed to successfully complete high school and enter an institution of higher education. CR21 programs operate in Northeastern Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and Southeastern Wisconsin. College Retention Services (Scholarships, Mentoring, and Financial Support): Backed by an endowment and a number of donor inspired renewable scholarships, monies are distributed annually to up to 250 students attending Wisconsin’s independent colleges. Beginning later in 2009, we will also provide mentoring support for first generation college students.  Career Readiness Services: WFIC administers a number of internships and workforce related partnerships that allow our students to gain real-world, professional experience.
